Dick Dent latest outings report

by Bryan Butler

Dick Dent continues to improve and surprise with every visit we make. On the last trip we were astonished to have sight of a Squacco Heron – in flight and at rest.
Most of you are aware that there is a search on for the best African Swamphen pic – particularly one which shows those unbelievable feet! City Parks intend erecting a large notice board set just inside the top dam (thus vandal proof) promoting Dick Dent as a Bird Sanctuary.

Incidentally, a pair of Southern Pochard has been seen and the African Snipe are still present – as well as Malachite Kingfisher.
Formal visiting has reverted to winter time – we now meet at 15h00 every second Saturday of the month. The sanctuary is open at all hours but we do suggest you don’t go alone – particularly if you are carrying expensive camera equipment.
